A Ghost Town Engagement Session by Photography by Verdi

Published by admin on May 18th, 2012

There are lots of things to love about Jennifer and Stefano’s engagement session by Photography by Verdi – the location is creative and interesting, taking place at an old Ghost Town called Goldfield, which also happens to feature stunning backdrops; their wedding sounds like a blast – Stefano is Italian so they’ll be taking the whole gang over to Italy for the Big Day; and their looks match the location perfectly – dressy with a nod to Western, but not over-the-top.

But what I love most about their shoot is their genuine affection for each other. When you look back over your engagement photos you want to see the love, and, dear readers, can’t you just see it? They look completely relaxed with each other, whether they’re laughing, posing on a roadside sign or looking deep into each others’ eyes (which I know from experience is much harder than it looks…).

Be sure to keep reading after the photos to hear the deets on their engagement. Very, very romantic, I promise you…

Jennifer and Stefano’s Thoughts:

How did you two meet?
Jennifer moved to Phoenix in 2005 for a software support position at a high tech company. Stefano took a microchip analog design position at the same high tech company in 2005.  She loves her job, she loves the company she works for, and most of all, she loves the engineer she supported and sat next to for 3 years!  He was looking for a career change, little did he know he’d also meet his soul mate! Stefano and Jennifer no longer sit next to each other, but they’re still inseparable!

How did you know he/she was “the one”?
It may sound cliche, but we both just “knew”.

Please, tell us about the proposal!
Stefano and Jenn spent most of the summer 2009 remodeling Jenn’s master bathroom. They finished Labor Day weekend and decided to celebrate by going to Sedona the weekend before her 30th birthday. Stefano booked a gorgeous bed and breakfast in Sedona, each room with its own hot tub on the patio over looking the red mountains…very romantic!

Unfortunately, the Thursday before they left, Sedona had a huge rain storm. Mudslides piled up cars in the Talaquepaque parking lot! Floods trapped people in their homes! They quickly cancelled their reservation and went to Flagstaff for the weekend. He found a cute little bed and breakfast in an old historical house about a mile from downtown. It was raining there too, but they were happy to get away from Phoenix and away from the bathroom remodeling!

They spent the day walking to town and doing a little shopping. When they returned to the room, there was a bottle of champagne on ice waiting for their arrival. Jenn figured something must be up. Stefano said he wanted to celebrate her birthday early since family was coming to town the following weekend. He ran out to the car to pick up her birthday gift. It was a heavy box with a pink bow on top and a little card. She opened it up and there was another box inside with another card, this card a little sweeter than the first. She opened that one to find another box with another card! He had about 5 or 6 boxes each with a card that got sweeter and sweeter until the last box was opened with a card that said “will you marry me?” and a beautiful ring that he designed!

Jenn said YES! Although she does occasionally tease him about not having an engagement ring since this was technically a birthday gift.

Anything special about the engagement shoot or why you chose the location you did?
Stefano is from Italy, his entire family lives in Italy, Jenn’s entire family lives several thousand miles from Phoenix and hasn’t been to Italy, so what better place to have their wedding?

To add a little American flare to their wedding with a touch of true Western heritage, the couple chose Apache Junction for their engagement photos. Along with the town’s authentic ruggedness, the couple’s favorite valley mountains (the Superstitions) serve as the perfect back drop for their photo shoot.

This is a continuation of the post above. After spending some time at the Fullerton Arboretum for our couples session, we went over to the Orange Korean Church, also in Fullerton for the wedding ceremony. I’ve heard hundreds of wedding vows, but the ones I heard from Dave and Michelle were one of the most sincere and heartfelt that I have ever heard.

Its interesting to note that the  great King Kamehameha of Hawaii  sponsored and paid for  the building of the First Hawaiian Christian church.

Church of England vetoes services of blessing for same-sex couples

Published by admin on February 23rd, 2012

The Church of England has warned its clergy not to register same-sex relationships, following government confirmation that places of worship can host civil partnership ceremonies from next month.

Gay and lesbian couples can, from 5 December, celebrate their big day in religious premises opting into a new scheme. But there is no obligation on religious groups to take part in the initiative.

In a written statement the equalities minister Lynne Featherstone said: “The government is committed to removing the legal barrier to civil partnerships being registered on the religious premises of those faith groups who choose to allow this to happen.”

The law currently bans civil partnership ceremonies on religious premises and the legal form of marriage is currently only available to opposite-sex couples.

But the Church of England has warned that its clergy should not provide services of blessing for same-sex couples.

A spokesman said: “We will study the draft regulations as a matter of urgency to check they deliver the firm assurances that have been given to us and others that the new arrangements will operate by way of denominational opt-in.

“If ministers have delivered what they said they would in terms of genuine religious freedom, we would have no reason to oppose the regulations. The House of Bishops’ statement of July 2005 made it clear that the Church of England should not provide services of blessing for those who register civil partnerships and that remains the position. The Church of England has no intention of allowing civil partnerships to be registered in its churches.”

A spokesman for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales also reinforced its opposition to the new plans, saying the new provisions were unnecessary as none of its churches would be used for these purposes.

“As the regulations require prior consent, the measure can have no direct impact on Catholic premises.

“The church welcomes the fact that the government has made an explicit statement in the draft regulations that nothing in them creates any obligation to make an application for approval. This will help rebut any attempt to mount spurious cases of unlawful discrimination against churches which do not host civil partnerships.”

Featherstone’s announcement comes after an amendment was made in the last Parliament in the House of Lords to the Equality Act which removed the ban on holding civil partnership ceremonies in religious premises. The Lord Alli amendment to the equality bill was passed in March 2010 by a majority of 74 votes.

Campaign group Stonewall welcomed the decision. Its chief executive, Ben Summerskill, said: “Since the first civil partnerships took place in 2005, religious groups and lesbian and gay people of faith have expressed the importance of being able to celebrate their commitment to one another in their place of worship. It is a clear signal of how far we’ve come that, for the first time, the many lesbian and gay couples of faith in Britain today will be able to do so.”

Christian Church Wedding Songs:

He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts
Rest assured this troubadour is acting on his part
The union of your spirits here has caused him to remain
For whenever two or more of you are gathered in his name
There is love
There is love
Well a man shall leave his mother and a woman leave her home
They shall travel on to where the two shall be as one
As it was in the beginning, is now until the end
Woman draws her life from man and gives it back again
And there’s love
There is love
Well then what’s to be reason for becoming man and wife
Is it love that brings you here, or love that gives you life

Catholic Marriage:

Catholic Marriage, also called matrimony, is a “covenant by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life and which is ordered by its nature to the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring. [It] has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament between the baptised.”[1] In the Roman Rite, it is ordinarily celebrated in a Nuptial Mass. The nature of the covenant requires that the two participants be one man and one woman, that they be free to marry, that they willingly and knowingly enter into a valid marriage contract, and that they validly execute the performance of the contract.

Catholic weddings:

Before you happily starting scribbling a list of guests and giggling at how great you gift list will be though, you will need to organise a wedding ceremony that suits you both – and if you both are practising Catholics, you will no doubt want to have a Catholic wedding. If that’s the case, you can choose to have your Catholic ceremony held with Holy Communion included for both of you, (called a Nuptial Mass) or, for example, if one of you is Catholic and one isn’t, you can choose to have your Catholic ceremony – including readings and prayers – but no Communion.

Roman Catholic Weddings:

Introduction
Roman Catholics are Christians who believe that Jesus was sent by God to show people the right way to live. The Pope, based in The Vatican, is the leader of the Church and advises on matters of faith and morality over his world-wide flock.Central to the Roman Catholic faith are The Seven Sacraments which are: Baptism, Penance (the confession and forgiveness of sins), Holy Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders (where a person devotes him or herself entirely to God), and becomes a nun (bride of Christ), monk or priest, and relinquishes any right to marry, and Reconciliation (the final sacrament, preparing the dying for ever-lasting life). The main difference between the Protestant and Catholic beliefs is that Protestants believe that Holy Communion (Eucharist) is a remembrance of Christ’s last supper, whereas the Catholic Church believe that the consecrated bread and wine actually becomes the body and blood of Christ (transubstantiation). In addition, Protestants only have two sacraments, neither of which are Marriage.

History of Marriage in the Catholic Church:

The history of marriage in the Catholic Church has been a continuation of the Judaic concept of marriage. Although at the time of Christ marriage was considered a necessary passage into adulthood, the Church introduced the notion into the ancient world that the celibate unmarried state was preferable and more holy. As a result of directly challenging the social norms regarding marriage and the buying and selling of women into marriage, and particularly in defending the right of women to choose to remain unmarried virgins for the sake of Christ, there were many virgin martyrs in the first few centuries of the Catholic Church. The stories associated with these virgin martyrs often makes it clear that they were martyred for their refusal to marry.Although the Church was not opposed to marriage, the preference for the celibate state came from the example of Jesus, the concern about the imminent coming of the Kingdom of God as supported by Jesus and early followers such as Saint Paul, and the exhortation by Jesus to avoid ‘earthly ties’. It meant inevitably that first-century Christians placed less value on the family but rather saw celibacy (not marrying) and freedom from family ties as a preferable state. Paul had suggested that marriage be used only as a last resort by those Christians that found it too difficult to remain chaste.
